Residents turn out to view £100m Mobberley investment proposals

Over 200 residents attended the LPC Living exhibition regarding plans for the redevelopment of the HARMAN technology site in Mobberley.

The two-day exhibition, held at the Rajar Building on 12-13 July, displayed details of the proposals for the 40 acre brownfield site which include a new headquarters for Harman and its 200 employees. The investment would be secured by developing the portion of the site not required by Harman for up to 375 new homes.

The plans also include creating new open space, new footpaths linking the site and Mobberley to the surrounding countryside and with the existing network of rural footpaths. Pedestrian links would be created that link the site with shops and other commercial buildings opposite the site, encouraging greater use of local amenities, helping to provide a boost to the local economy.

The proposal by LPC Living, a company owned by the Pervaiz Naviede Family Trust, is separate to another consultation by Cheshire East Council to identify a number of sites for potential development.  Cheshire East Council, as part of their review, have identified a potential site on Town Lane and earlier this year had asked local residents for their views on allocating that site for development for housing.  The exhibition was able to clarify that the two proposals are separate, and not linked in any way.

During the exhibition, residents provided comments and suggestions on a range of topics including the number of new homes, education provision and potential uses for the adjacent 20 acre community land. LPC Living plans to review all comments received to determine what changes can be made to the proposal before a planning application is submitted to Cheshire East Council later this year.

Early feedback has already delivered a significant change in the proposals with the Smith Lane access now removed from the plans.  The current Smith Lane access to the Ilford Way site would only be used by emergency vehicles.

An LPC Living spokesperson said:

“LPC Living and HARMAN technology are encouraged by the level of interest shown by local residents to the plans and are delighted with the suggestions received so far for the site and community space.

“We are keen to continue working with the community to ensure that the proposals we eventually submit to Cheshire East Council will benefit existing residents and businesses of Mobberley.”

Residents are encouraged to send back their questionnaires and comments cards by Friday 19 July for consideration by the LPC Living design team. The address is Freepost Plus RTEA-YXRH-YYXG, Lexington Communications, First Floor, The Zenith Building, 26 Spring Gardens, Manchester.

A community information line is also available for residents wishing to discuss the proposals on 0161 711 0293.
