Green shoots for Salford allotments

Proposals to create allotments in Ordsall have moved a step closer today.

At a meeting this morning with the Ordsall Community Allotment Society, Salford City Council and LPC Living it was announced that a planning application for more than 20 individual and community allotment plots on the site of the former Ordsall District Centre on Robert Hall Street is now being prepared. It is anticipated the application will be submitted later this month and if successful it is hoped works will commence this autumn.

Simon Ashdown, director at LPC Living commented: “Sustainable communities lie at the heart of our work so we’re delighted that these proposals are about to reach the planning stage. The creation of allotments in the area will help promote healthy living in the community and encourage both existing and new residents to work collaboratively.”

It is envisaged that the allotments will sit alongside new affordable housing and public open space to be created by LPC with the first public consultations are provisionally scheduled for late 2013.
