Dubai turns Green

Dubai’s leaders have this week announced that it aims to make the city green by 2020 by turning four per cent of the city into parks and having a quarter of the Emirate filled with nurseries and cultivated land.

As part of the municipality’s efforts to make a greener, sustainable city it is hoped that by 2020, nearly 380 square kilometres of the emirate will be used for cultivation purposes.

Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality said, “By conserving arid lands and expanding our green spaces, as well as nurturing an individual culture to plant trees, we can protect essential water supplies and preserve our next generation from drying up.”

He added “So far we have achieved just over 5% per cent of our target, and the municipality is keen on adopting a number of strategies, implementing projects and raising public awareness for this cause”.

Nozmul Islam, CEO of Dermarr Real Estate Properties a company representing the Pervaiz Naviede Family Trust in UAE said, “Again Dubai is developing not only a place do business and tourist hub, but a city to live and enjoy beautifully created greenery.”

He continued by saying, “Our clients are have always been impressed day-to-day on how their investments in Dubai are evolving with the city that never seems to stop growing”.
